What is Lisp ?

<<About linuxandlisp>> For the uninitiated, Lisp is the programming language invented by Professor John McCarthy in 1958 while he was a professor at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).This makes lisp the most ancient programming language still in existence. Remarkably it is also the best. All other programming languages have since then been a degeneration in quality. The beauty of lisp can be described by the manner in which programmers especially expert hackers of languages like C and java have responded once they learnt lisp. One such example is that of Peter Siebel who was a java programmer before he learnt lisp. He then actually left his job to start learning lisp and even wrote a book on lisp to help the people who had no idea what lisp was all about. To learn about the essence lisp you can visit paul graham's web site where he discusses the roots of lisp. Also the official history of lisp by John McCarthy himself is available here
